BACK REEF RASH PACK An ideal supplement to a basic First Aid Kit or as a Stand-Alone Kit. Because of the high risk of bacterial contamination in marine wounds, thorough wound cleaning is essential to prevent infection and encourage healing. Sterile Gauze Swabs (3) x 2:
Use as an aid to wound cleaning, burns cover (soaked in saline) and wound cover.
Iodine Swabs x 6:
Use to clean marine wounds after irrigation with clean water.
Caution: do not use if there is a known allergy to iodine.
Sterile Wound Irrigation Syringe (10mL) x 1:
Use to irrigate wounds under pressure with clean water to dislodge grit and germs from the wound site.
Green Soap Scrub Sponge x 1:
Use to scrub dirty wounds such as coral cuts after irrigation with clean water and disinfecting with iodine. Irrigate with clean water for final cleaning.
Sterile Wound Closure Strips x 3:
Use to close skin lacerations after appropriate wound cleaning.
Apply Wound Closure Strips across the wound to pull the wound edges together. If necessary cut in half ensuring that 2cm of tape remains on either side of the wound.
Tincture of Benzoin Swab Stick x 1:
Use to form a protective film on the skin before wound closure with the Wound Closure Strips.
Waterproof Absorbent Dressings (6 x 10cm) x 2:
Use to cover cuts and abrasions where there is likely to be a significant ooze of fluid from the wound.
Change after first day and cover with a Waterproof Dressing once ooze has ceased. Dispose of in Biohazard Bag or burn.
Waterproof Dressings (6 x 7cm) x 4 and (9 x 10cm) x 2:
Use to cover larger wounds where ooze of fluids is minor only.
Apply by peeling off central portion of cover strip, applying sticky surface over the wound, then removing the outer cover of the strip. Replace every 2-5 days.

Neosporin Topical Ointment (15gm) (Polymycin B sulphate 5,000 units, neomycin sulphate 5mg, bacitracin 400 units in paraffin):
Use to treat wounds if signs of infection appear (increasing redness/ warmth/ swelling/tenderness/swelling. Can also be used to treat outer ear infection (Swimmer's ear) provided the tympanic membrane (eardrum) is intact.
Apply lightly to the affected area 3 times daily. Do not use if there is a known allergy to any of the components.
Roxithromycin (Rulide 300mg) x 5:
Use to treat infected wounds not responding to the above measures. Take one tablet daily with food. Do not take if known allergy to macrolides including erythromycin.
Alternatives: Ciprofoxacin, Doxycycline.
