Courses

Equip offers a range of courses that focus on the recognition, prevention and treatment of many illnesses and injuries prevalent to wilderness and remote area environments.

When venturing into the wilderness or a remote area, for work or recreation, it is important to recognise that an urban qualification (e.g. Senior First Aid) is not adequate. We define wilderness first aid taking over from urban first aid when you find yourself GREATER THAN ONE HOUR FROM DEFINITIVE MEDICAL CARE.

Equip is dedicated to providing Australians with the most up to date and applicable, wilderness and remote area first aid training available. Our hands-on approach ensures students who successfully complete our courses have the decision-making tools to act confidently in all remote area and wilderness first aid situations.

Our approach is very different to typical first aid courses. Fast paced and hands-on, each course emphasizes role-play, scenarios and case studies. Textbook learning is secondary to actual experience. Instruction takes place outdoors as much as possible and could be described as offering a rapid learning curve and a stimulating learning experience for participants.

Basic Wilderness First Aid (BWFA) (2 days - 16 hours)
Fun, practical and loaded with scenarios this is the ideal introduction to the field of Wilderness First Aid for those playing in the outdoors.
Wilderness First Aid (inc CPR) (3 days - 24 hours)
This 3-day course covers the same material as the 2-day course as well as offering CPR and more scenario based teaching. A well rounded introduction to Wilderness First Aid for bushwalkers, climbers, paddlers and those who find themselves out and about.
Advanced Wilderness First Aid (AWFA) (4 days - 32 hours)
The AWFA course is an excellent starting point for serious recreational adventurers or those starting in the Outdoor Recreation/Education fields. Plenty of scenarios, CPR/EAR and a solid understanding of patient assessment sets you up for success.
Leaders Wilderness First Aid (LWFA) (7 days - 60 hours)
The LWFA is the perfect course for the outdoor professional, seen in Australia as the defacto standard for group leaders guiding extended programs in remote or wilderness areas.
Wilderness First Responder (WFR) ( days - 80 hours)
The WFR is our highest level of training. It is accepted as the defacto international standard for outdoor professionals, and is required by companies such as NOLS and Outward Bound (USA) for all of their field staff.
LWFA/WFR Recert (3 days - 24 hours)
This is a specialist Recert course for LWFA/WFR. It includes a CPR refresher. Your LWFA or WFR MUST be current to attend.
LWFA-WFR Upgrade (3 days - 24 hours)

Do you have a current 7 day qualification from us? You may be eligible to UPGRADE your certification to the internationally recognized Wilderness First Responder (WFR - 10 day) qualification.

AWFA - LWFA Upgrade (4 days - 36 hours)

If you have completed a 4 day WFA course OR AWFA with us in the last 2 years, use this course to both UPGRADE to the LWFA (7 day level) and get into the 3 day RECERT cycle.
